Sodium Propionate, CAS# 137-40-6, is a sodium salt of propionic acid manufactured through chemical synthesis of propionic acid and sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide, available as White crystalline solid or powder. Sodium Propionate is widely used as preservative. It is affirmed by US FDA as GRAS(generally recognized as safe) and widely accepted as safe food additive in many countries with E number E281.
